Yahoo Finance provides great real-time charts and financial information about the stocks.  And it’s free. 🙂

Stock/Option Screening Tools:

Jitta offer a great free online tool and does all the hardwork by ranking the list of stocks in 9 markets against their computed value.  Use this as a reference to guide in your trading decision. Jitta Score is the number representing the business performance of the company for the past 10 years on a scale from one to 10. The higher the score, the better the company. Having a Jitta Score of more than seven consistently means the company can increase market share and generate more profit.

GuruFocus is a great online tool for stock financial details, screeners.  What I like is that it also have a Discounted Factor (DCF) calculator.  To learn how to use this DCF calculator, you can refer to this video on one example.

Finviz Stock Screener can screen using a wide variety of fundamental, technical, and descriptive metrics. The screener will also provide charts, quotes, and other useful information once you’ve drilled down and come up with results that are worth further exploration. To see if a stock is expensive/cheap, compare its P/E to either “EPS this Y”, “Sales Q/Q” or “EPS Q/Q”.  If P/E is less then any of them, it is cheap (ie. can consider to buy).
Below are the other criteria that I used in this screener.

EPS growth next 5 yr:        > 10%

ROE:                                  > 10%

Sales growth past 5 years: > 10%

EPS growth this year:         > 0%

Current Ratio:                     > 1

EPS growth next year:       > 0%

EPS growth past 5 years:  > 10%

Option Seller ROI has great online free scanner for Cash Secured Puts and Covered Calls.  One word of advice, make sure to do this when you have enough cash to buy the stock if exercise OR you have the stock when you write covered calls.  Don’t ever do this naked.

Zacks Stock Screener is well-known for its rating system, and its free screener offers a surprising amount of functionality, with more metrics than Finviz offers.  While there, also check out Zacks Earning Calendar for opportunities.

Motley Fool Stock Screener lets you tap into the collective knowledge of the CAPS community, including the star ratings on each stock that are determined by the individual picks of thousands of Motley Fool members who use the system.

Magic Formula screener is formulated by Joel Greenblatt who married the key investing principles of Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett to give stock relative valuation. You can check his The Little Book That Still Beats the Market for more information.

Another Magic Formula screener created by Dr Wealth.  This does not require signup.

TradingView Screener is another free online stock screening tool.  It also has Forex and Crypto screener and heatmap to aid in your screening.

Investor’s Business Daily is great IOS apps that you can use to do a quick scan of potential trades. Check out the RS (Relative Strength vs S&P500) score of each stock (I recommend only choose those above 80) in their IBD 50, Sector Leaders or IBD Big Cap 20. Do your other analysis to zoom into this list.  Note that RS is different from RSI (which compare against itself).

Trading Platforms:

OptionsXpress – I started with this platform and love it until it was bought over by Schwab

Charles Schwab (SG) – I like this platform and the support system in place. Hence, it was sad to see them closing up their Singapore office by end Dec 2019 and moving out. But nevertheless, a good platform. For those interested, can still go to their US website to register.

TD Ameritrade (SG) – I migrated to this platform from the one above. Hear lots of good reviews for them. [Update as at Dec 2019] Guess what.  Charles Scbwab has bought over TD Ameritrade.  So I am back with the same platform again.   🙂  Besides an Apps which you can install on your desktop or mobile device, you can also access this platform via their online portal (at reduced feature).

Indicators That I Monitor To Check On Market:

Below are the indicators and valuations that I used to check if the market is overvalued or due for correction.  Do read up the details on each of those pages and do your due diligence checks as well.

CNN Money Fear Factor – When money go to Extreme Greed and reaches around 20, it will most likely to bounce back up. This gives an indicator of the market direction.

Shiller PE Ratio is a more reasonable market valuation indicator than the PE ratio because it eliminates fluctuation of the ratio caused by the variation of profit margins during business cycle

Shiller Sector PE Ratio shows the Shiller PE Ratio split over 11 sectors so that assessment can be further drill down. Great for portfolio review.

Buffett Indicator is a valuation multiple used to assess how expensive or cheap the aggregate stock market is at a given point in time.

Is Inverted Yield Curve created?  An inverted yield curve has predicted the past 7 recessions.  An inverted yield curve is when the yields on bonds with a shorter duration are higher than the yields on bonds that have a longer duration. It’s an abnormal situation that often signals an impending recession. In a normal yield curve, the short-term bills yield less than the long-term bonds.

PP Bottom Fisher indicator when used in conjunction with W%R indicator give a good assessment of when a bottom of SPX has occurred.  Check out this video on how to use it.
