Alternative to Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool
If you have been marketing online for a period of time, you would know that a very useful free tool for doing keyword research is Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool.
With this tool, you can generate a list of relevant keywords in your target niche. Using this list, you can achieve the following:
- Build long-tailed Adsense sites (I do this)
- Add to your Pay-Per-Click campaign using those long-tailed keywords to lower your cost
- Do SEO on your website to pull in more traffic (I love this part)
- Do market research to test if your product has a potential buying target (ie. people must be searching for it in order for them to buy it)
- … and much more
Regardless what I’m using keyword research for, I loosely follow a basic procedure. This workflow can be crudely explained as:
- I start with my first-level keyword
- I assess difficulty (number of competitors)
- I assess profitability (number of searches)
- I look for long-tailed keywords
- I digged further
- I combined and come up with a final list.
The whole process takes me about 1 to 2 hours.
For a few years, Overture tool was heavily used. Several other sites were also built to pull data from its database.
However, recently you would notice that Overture database has NOT be updated since January 2007. The data is now getting pretty old and dated.
